Implant-Supported Crowns and Bridges

Dental implants are extremely popular choices for people who have lost a tooth, or multiple teeth, due to periodontal disease, injury, or a medical condition.

A dental implant is an artificial root that is surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone, on the site of the missing tooth, by a dental specialist. Dental implants are made of titanium, which allows them to integrate with bone without being recognized as a foreign object in our body. Following a healing period, a dental crown or a bridge can be attached to them.

Implant supported crowns and bridges are a great way to replace one or more missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having removable complete or partial dentures. Implants provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances.

Dental implant crowns and bridges are custom colored and shaped to replicate that of your surrounding teeth, with aims to give the implant a more natural look. They are very strong, stable, and durable and will last many years. On occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.

What are the steps involved in fixed implant restorations?

Fitting an implant supported crown or bridge requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will take measurements and an impression of the dental implant/s. Sometimes we place a temporary crown or bridge to help shape and contour your gum tissue.

Since these restorations must be fabricated very precisely to ensure correct bite and to match the opposing teeth, we have your implant crown or bridge custom made just for you at the cosmetic dental laboratory. Approximately 2-3 weeks later, we will insert the crown or bridge and you will immediately be able to enjoy your new teeth.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits will help to maintain your new implant and ensure it can function for several years.

We refer out for the implant procedure of the artificial roots. We will then fabricate the Crown or bridge in our office and implant it onto the artificial root.
