Invisalign – Orthodontie invisible

Invisalign® is a great choice for our patients who are searching for a more discreet orthodontic treatment option. Rather than using metal brackets and wires like traditional braces, the Invisalign system uses a series of custom-made, computer-generated plastic appliances called aligners to straighten your teeth. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and nearly invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Each set of aligners is designed to make small changes to the alignment of the teeth. As you switch sets of aligners about every two weeks, your teeth will be gradually, gently guided to their proper positions. You will also visit our office on a regular basis during treatment to make certain that your smile is progressing as planned.

Types of Cases Invisalign Can Correct

In general, Invisalign can be used to treat the same orthodontic issues that are normally treated with braces. Dr. Feldman may recommend Invisalign to correct:

  • Overcrowding – when a lack of room in the jaw cause teeth to shift and overlap each other.
  • Gapped Teeth – mild gaps between teeth can be a result of jaw development, or due to shifting following the loss of one or more teeth.
  • Overbite – when the top teeth bite, or jet over the lower teeth.
  • Underbite – when the bottom teeth bite over the upper teeth.
  • Crossbite – when the upper and lower jaws do not line up properly.
  • Open bite – when opposing teeth cannot make contact with each other.

What are the steps involved in an Invisalign treatment?

The first step is to visit our office to determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.

We will take pictures, x-rays and impressions of your teeth, which will include before photos, to track your progress and transformation throughout your treatment.

A set of custom aligners will be created for you at Invisalign’s laboratory. After sending precise treatment instructions, Invisalign uses advanced computer technology to translate these instructions in a sequence of finely calibrated aligners.

When you return to the office you will receive the aligners, to ensure they fit properly. The aligners are made of BPA-free plastic. Invisalign aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to the desired final position. It is recommended to wear them for 20-22 hours per day for optimal results. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and only taken out to eat, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will begin to move gradually — week-by-week until the final alignment prescribed is attained.

You will need to return to the office for a new set of aligners every two to six weeks, depending on your current phase of treatment, and the progress of the movement of your teeth. The length of your treatment will depend on a variety of factors, including the type of correction needed, the speed at which your teeth are moving, and regular usage of your aligners as recommended.

We’ll take a set of after photos for you, and you’ll get to admire your beautiful new smile! If needed a set of retainers will be made for you to ensure your hard work and beautiful results will last for life!
